Relaxing in the Seychelles

Why the Seychelles?

We love to end a trip with a beach stay if we can, and following our safari in Tanzania and a week in Zanzibar we needed a break from constant movement.

We really wanted to try to get to the Seychelles since we wouldn’t be that close again.  There’s really no easy way to get there but if you can make it work, the sunsets alone are worth every mile traveled.

Arriving there was its own time-consuming adventure. We left Stone Town late afternoon and flew to Doha, Qatar for a layover and connection. After a five hour flight from Doha, we landed on Mahé the following morning.

How we Got there

Before arriving on the island of Mahé, we had spent 12 days in the Serengeti, followed by a week in Stone Town, Zanzibar.  I’ll add that we were traveling during Covid and that testing added a a lot to the logistics of this trip. Requirements were changing by the day and testing windows were very specific.  Needless to say, there was quite a bit of uncertainty and added stress.

Our week in the Seychelles definitely gave us a chance to catch our breath before the long trip home. I think we enjoyed it more because of the stress of big travel during Covid.

Reflections

We rented a house steps away from the main beach had the opportunity to walk on the beach every evening. It was glorious. The sunsets wowed us every night. I was enchanted each evening by the glass-like reflection of the sun on the water soaked beach at low tide.

The chance to visit and savor paradise will always be memorable, both for the chance to do nothing for a week and for the opportunity to have these indelible images on my camera roll and in my mind.

If you are hoping to go we are happy to share our experiences, tips, and where we stayed.
